Tong Leung celebrated his 50th birthday with close friends from the entertainment industry, including Brigitte Lin, Jacky Cheung, and Kenny Bee.

The actor was originally scheduled to record his upcoming movie B>The Grandmasters in Guangzhou</b> but was given a day off. His wife, Carina Lau, then proceeded to invite friends to their house for a party at their home.

Carina had posted a childhood photo of her husband and continued with posting photos of the night's proceedings. Those invited were all Tony's close friends, but the late Leslie Cheung's absence was sorely felt as his friends sang in his memory.

Yoon Kye-sang has signed on to join So Ji-sub and Kim Haneul in MBC’s war epic series Road Number 1, which is bound to be one of the big buzz shows of next year. With those three leads in place (as well as Choi Min-soo and Sohn Chang-min), the main cast is now complete.

Yoon Kye-sang and So Ji-sub will play comrades and friends, while the love triangle with Kim Haneul will additionally set the two up as rivals. The Korean War drama takes its title from the name of the road that served as the main passageway from North Korea into Seoul, and from Seoul into Pyeongyang, during the war in 1950.

The cast held their first script reading at the MBC Dream Center in Ilsan on December 19. The production begins filming on January 4 and airs in June, in time to commemorate the sixty years that have passed since the war.

Heart-throb actor Joe Odagiri, 33, is the image character for the new Tokyo luxury apartment complex Brillia Ariake Sky Tower. At a recent talk show event, he gave the press an inside scoop on his personal life, insisting he is a complete indoor-type guy.

“It’s like I live in a house without a front door. I watch television, I lie around, and I drink a lot.” He is so fond of being at home, that on a recent trip to Brazil, the actor searched for a do-it-yourself furniture store to make his nest a more personal space.

Though the search ended in vain, Odagiri compromised by becoming a committed IKEA fan upon his return. “I love IKEA. The products they sell are so reasonably priced and kawaii. I’m currently jobless, so it would be amazing to be in their commercial if they ever had one. In the meantime though, my schedule is wide open for a booze gig too!”

Chinese mainland pop singer Chen Lin has died after apparently leaping from a building in Beijing on Saturday, according to a report on Sina.com.cn.

Chen, 39, plunged from the ninth floor of an apartment in Chaoyang District of Beijing. Her body was found by a local resident in early Saturday morning.

Exactly why the singer fell from the building is still under investigation.

One of Chen Lin's friends said the star was plagued by "emotional problems."

Born in Chongqing in 1970, Chen rose to stardom as a singer with the album "I Can Never Understand Your Love" in 1993. It reached the top of the album charts and sold over 1.5 million copies.

In hit songs like "I Choose What I Want" and "Give up Your Love," Chen Lin candidly expressed her own outlook on love and life.

The singer married Shen Yongge, boss of Zhu Shu Entertainment Ltd. in 1995.

The two divorced in 2007, and Chen remarried singer Zhang Chaofeng two years later.

The king of kung fu cinema is set to star in a new movie about China's famed shrine of martial arts, the Shaolin Temple.

Jackie Chan will star in the $29 million production, "Shaolin," the latest screen portrayal of the 1,500-year old temple in central China whose famous fighting monks have featured in films by stars such as Bruce Lee and Jet Li, and in the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu" with David Carradine.

Chan's Chinese-language film will co-star veteran Hong Kong actor Andy Lau, actor-singer Nicholas Tse and Chinese actress Fan Bingbing.

The production, said to boast 1,000 real fighting monks and a grand scene in which the temple burns down, will start shooting later this year for release in late 2010. It was announced in a joint statement Thursday by four Chinese film studios: the state-run China Film Group Corp., Emperor Motion Pictures, Huayi Brothers Media Corp. and Beijing Silver Moon Productions Ltd.

Hong Kong filmmaker Benny Chan, who worked with Chan on "New Police Story" and "Rob-B-Hood," will direct and Cory Yuen will serve as action co-ordinator. Yuen's credits include "Lethal Weapon 4" and "X-Men."

"Shaolin" will be an updated version of a 1982 movie, "The Shaolin Temple," in which former Chinese kung fu champion Li made his screen debut, playing a boy adopted and trained by Shaolin monks who seeks to avenge the death of his father.

The new project could draw more heat for Shaolin Temple abbot Shi Yongxin, who has been accused of high living and seeking publicity for the famed shrine in the Songshan Mountains of central Henan province. He has also faced criticism for upgrading facilities at the once-austere temple.

Shi has agressively promoted the Shaolin brand, and has threatened to sue companies that use the temple's name or image without permission, but the abbot is clearly on board for Chan's project.

"It's worth cheering that we are now working with the most outstanding production team," Shi was quoted as saying in the statement Thursday.

Chan has most recently been shooting a remake of "The Karate Kid" in China with Will Smith's son, Jaden.

Gackt has already provided two theme songs for the "Kamen Rider" franchise, and now he is doing another one for the next movie. His new song "Stay the Decade Alive" will be used in "Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider Double & Decade Movie Taisen 2010," which opens in theaters on December 12.

Gackt's "Journey through the Decade," released in March, was his first "Kamen Rider" tie-in as the theme song to the television series "Kamen Rider Decade." He followed that up in August with "The Next Decade," used in the movie "Kamen Rider Decade: All Riders vs. Dai-Shocker." He also appeared in that film as a character named Riderman.

"Stay the Decade Alive" is his third tie-in single, set for release on January 1, 2010. It will be sold in the typical CD and CD+DVD editions, plus a limited memorial edition that contains two DVDs and a special booklet with words from Gackt on the "Kamen Rider Decade" series.
